Looking at some of your comments perhaps I came off not too badly! He's been in the kennel all day today just came in tonight - that did the trick along with a long walk - wonder if that will make him think (I doubt it)!!!! x

Can you get one of those dog crates for when he is in doors? They are not expensive when you consider against the possible loss of household goods. My Uncle lefted his Border terrier is his Golf with food, water and ventilation, only to find on his return; half a steering wheel, one passenger seat belt chewed through and a gear lever minus its knob. He has not owned a dog since!

I do have a cage in fact he has got through three!! Number one had plastic tray in bottom so he chewed that making a big hole in the corner! Thought he would be ok without the tray so left it open - tore up Lino!! Tried another cage which was a big bigger - ate all along edges of tray in bottom - then got at some more Lino - put carpet underneath tore that to pieces!!! Now in small cage with metal bottom and hopefully not enough room between the bars for him to get at the lino again!!!!

Those steel cages with galvanised trays that fold up flat for storage. Really good. I used them for my two older dogs before I decided to make some outdoor kennels and runs. I also buy knuckle bones once a week as a treat. They cost me 70p each and they help to keep their teeth clean and keep them occupied. Pig ears (best for pups) last them about ten minutes, but knuckle bones takes much longer to get through.

Whenever anyone compliments me on my beautiful Cocker I always let them know that it is not the sort of dog to have unless you have a lot of time to put to them and preferably have had experience and understanding dogs. I certainly don't regret purchasing my high energy bitch. You mention yours in a cage which I found to be the best purchase, apart from the dog, I have made. Apart from cutting down the dog chewing it is somewhere the dog can identify as a refuge and seems to be something they are quite happy with.

Not a cocker, but my godmother rescued a springer from a family in the village. Fine for 6/7 years, until one day she went out, left her (and her sprocker) in the kitchen (as usual) and she ate a huge patch of the middle of the lino floor! £4500 in vets fees later she's still not right- ripped most of her insides to bits and had to have massive sections removed.
Bloody stupid thing.
