Re: Feeding 12 week old puppy
I put my pup onto four a day at first even though she was ten weeks old because the breeder had just left a trough of food in the kennels all the time! Phased out lunch at four months now slowly phasing out supper at 5.5 months. When they are tiny they simply can't absorb the nutrients from large meals.
Its likely this pup will go on to one meal a day as she tends to be sick in the car just like two of her relations were. On shoot days they get small amounts of food during the day, fatty sausages or similar to keep them going instead of an early morning feed which would likely get left in the car.

In life, it is important to know when to stop arguing with people and simply let them be wrong.

Well... well. I’ve had to get in touch with the breeder though as she’s pooing 100% blood with clots and not eating much, somethings not right with her, when we picked her up they said they accidentally gave her some food that was mixed with eukanuba and now she has Diarrhea, which she did but now it’s just turned to just blood which can’t be right, I know blood can be in stool when food is changed but never seen it like this, the breeder has said if she is not right I can have my money back which obviously I do but don’t want to just give up on her if it’s nothing serious, in terms of vet bills who should pay I’m not happy to pay a vet bill out after having her a day and the amount I’ve paid for her, my other concerns is my other dog, if it’s parvo I don’t want her getting it.

Get her back to the breeder ASAP. Tell them you will be happy to collect her again subject to a full veterinary report from them and when she is eating correctly for a pup of that age. I would let them keep the money subject to the pup being examined. I would certainly not expect to pay anything further than the agreed price of the pup.

Re: Feeding 12 week old puppy
We’ve been to the vets the breeder has agreed to pay vet bills, the outcome is she’s massively under weight, her second vaccination was given at 9 week which is too early and they have given her an antibiotics injection and some food to put weight on and liquids for dehydration, she is to be seen again in 24 hrs if antibiotics are working then we will be given a weeks coursebreeder has offered to nurse her back to health but problem is then by the time she is of health I will have a pup that’s about 14-15 week still not toilet trained not used to her crate and that’s just going to make things harder in the long run, we’ve decided to nurse her ourselves, we can have our money back I mean we have in my opinion over paid for what she is anyway but she is a good pup and we don’t give up easily.
I shall keep you posted

Re: Feeding 12 week old puppy
The has done no tests just gave her a shot of antibiotics and food for weight gain, she is back again this morning but she has gone to the breeders vet for the checkup and what is needed now. She’s come on leaps in the last 24hrs so we are thinking she had an upset stomach from the eukanuba cocktail she had.
Breeder said she was on chudleys puppy food so I’ve bought a 12kg bag but now breeder says he’s taking pups off it now and said to change to autarky as that’s what he usually feeds them on and they do good on it, he said that about chudleys though. She obviously doesn’t like chudleys because she was eating maybe 6 biscuits a day which is nothing...
What puppy food do you recommend? I want to try and avoid this nightmare again, the breeder has been good though and have said they will pay all vet bills until better and if she’s not alright then we can have the money back no problem.
Any puppy food recommendations is appreciated.

Beta puppy for the last 8 dogs without problem. But you will get many opinions...
Be sure to wet whatever biscuit you feed though

Re: Feeding 12 week old puppy
Thanks for that, i shall have a look at that now. She's been back to the vets this morning and has gained weight already which is a step in the right direction, still some blood in the stool but vet said that could be because shes inflamed inside, there was no blood on the thermometer so its coming from deeper than that. We have been given a weeks course of antibiotics and to continue with weight gain food and paste to harden stool, she is less dehydrated now which is good, we are to continue with the dehydration fluid for a couple more days and then we can stop.Springcopse spaniels wrote: ↑Tue Jan 15, 2019 10:29 am Beta puppy for the last 8 dogs without problem. Like i mentioned she is much more puppy like now and seems much happier, less whining and much less of wanting to be picked up constantly.
I shall post updates for anyone interested.
