She’s not steady enough as you know and hardly surprising given the amount of work she does and like a lot of working dogs has learnt that by following her nose or initiative gets her a reward despite you. If you are not careful you can just become a form of transport between drives and it depends what you want from her too?
It is hard to maintain focus from a dog when you work them several times a week but by being pedantic about it now will pay dividends.
I think if you put your thinking cap on and decide which areas you want to improve maybe the stop and handling skills over the next few weeks you’d improve her no end. As I said do little bits during the day when you are out and about keepering or even on shoots... Maybe at the end of a drive for a couple of drives get her out and just concentrate on handling skills and then pop her back in the car and sweep with the others for now.
And I’d say it’s a bloody good job you pistol failed coz she looked like she was on the verge of running in and sat down again when the banging stopped and the clicking started.....
Your line up drills need work to she needs to be following your where your feet are pointing not you trying to hold her head in the right direction...
It’s a useful exercise coz it gets them to ignore what they’ve seen and trust your handling and when you did get her focus, you pushed her back onto that blind well.
Try some of the pattern blinds in the Training reference section because very quickly you can get a dog switched on to going where your feet are pointing, you can almost get them to dance with you....The area you were training in for that vid would be perfect for those.
She’s grown into a cracking looking dog BTW........
