But until there's a rule that states you must give the KC a microchip number what you're writing is just pie in the sky.bird wrote:It really wouldn't be that hard or onerous. You add a space on the entry form for chip number. You check the KC docs on the day when competitors sign in and at some point before prizes are awarded you check the chip in the dog. You publish the chipnumber along with the other details in the results.
At the very least that should get past any accusations that dogs are being made up off the back of another dogs results as anyone (including the KC if they get off their arses and become more proactive!) could verify that the same chip number was credited with each result.

And that rule would be how hard to implement exactly? There's either an appetite to guard against fraudulent behaviour or there isn't.
Re: sprocker spaniel
If you want to compete in Dog sports you have to register your chip with the KC, if you do well the chip gets checked, simple stuff. Also if you make up a dog, whether Ft or Show or any other Champion the parentage is checked also. A small cost for a gene profile for anyone that wishes to compete. It really is about time pedigrees and awards actually meant something.
In life, it is important to know when to stop arguing with people and simply let them be wrong.

Again pie in the sky, the KC need to amend the rules to all dogs registered need a chip number to be registered, can't see that happening.
Also if you think the KC current records as displayed on myKC are 100% accurate I suggest you get your letter for Santa stuffed up the chimney in the near future.

It's a perfectly simple amendment. Dogs should all be chipped now. Both my dogs chip numbers show up on MyKC. The KC make amendments to competition regulations regularly according to Google and it would be seen to be addressing concerns raised while not taking action against any individual as no one has been directly accused which is one of the criticisms of the letters currently circulating. It would guard against future dishonesty. Seems pretty straightforward to me.

you think if that was the case, anyone so interested in being fraudulent would just swap chips over. not hard to chip a dog, wont imagine it being to hard to remove a chip.
not at chip readers, read all chips. - another cost from each club.

Re: sprocker spaniel
Do we really need to be doing this all retrospectively? Where does the line get drawn, i have a bunch of cockers. Some i bred and some i bought (in good faith as cockers) but if i sold pups and they were tested and came back as having springer blood in them what happens? Not my fault so how far back do you go and how do you identify which line was carrying the springer blood?
Pretty common knowledge that there has been springer blood brought into cockers over time and it is the only thing that has kept the breed viable.
Going forward yes it would be good to have more stringent checks but where there is a will there is a way if people want to be dishonest. I would also suggest that there will be less outcrossing undertaken as we go forward as the cockers are at a point where there is plenty of demand for trial stakes and a lot more of a gene pool than there was so there is not as much to be gained.

Re: sprocker spaniel
Too right. Its simple that every KC registered dog has its microchip number recorded. Its simple to scan them on a trial day. If the numbers are checked after the trial and any dog is found to be a ringer then it is disqualified and the handler is banned for life from KC events.Judy wrote:If you want to compete in Dog sports you have to register your chip with the KC, if you do well the chip gets checked, simple stuff. Removing them isn't easy at all - they're tiny. The vast majority of chips read unless inserted in a different country using other protocols. A scanner can be had for £50, not exactly bank breakingscot-ish wrote:bird wrote:Why?PERCE wrote:the KC need to amend the rules to all dogs registered need a chip number to be registered, can't see that happening.

Re: sprocker spaniel
A greyhound cannot race without its tattoo and identity being checked. For the credibility of Trialling there has to be identity checks until then thel t cheats will carry on running ringers, making up false champions and getting away with it. A person could be buying a puppy from a FTCH and paying good money for it,when in reality its parents never won a trial.
As far asa DNA testing goes, the horse has bolted and there are too many innocent people who would be affected if it were proved certain popular sires were actually sprockers.
But identity checks on dogs competing in trials is imperative to taking the breed forward and making sure the best dogs are actually bred from.
