farmboy, let's stay on topic ;) so you're saying all that circus trick stuff is also practical dog training because it helps develop an outstanding hunting companion regardless whether a dog makes it or not in field trials :?:

Looks like I'm the only impractical dog trainer in my crowd - as all the others have hied themselves off a thousand miles to the canine Costa del Sol (south Georgia) so the dogs' paws can set down on something other than snow and ice for the first time in months...

Leaving me behind to drown training sorrows

with Wild Bill's "in-dentured triples" (good one, Judy  )

So barren a training landscape has it been, from a practical standpoint, my dogs are sacrilegiously contemplating

One way or another,

gotta have practical training sustenance...

There is a Canadian bloke who lives near me, he says Britain is great because he doesn't have to shovel rain ! There has hardly been any snow in my area this year but there has been plenty of rain instead. Not as much as has fallen in the Somerset Levels though ! The poor sods that live down there have had to grow gills to survive. Living there must be hellish right now.

Two or three years ago was when our last heavy falls of snow arrived , my dogs loved it but I didn't.

This winter has certainly been good for water training! If we want to go anywhere we fight over the Freelander as its the only one which can get through the lanes safely as the water is so deep in places.
In life, it is important to know when to stop arguing with people and simply let them be wrong.

With all due respect to HRH and rules of the realm, I've found it altogether practical to train them to guard swan eggs

and later learn to crack them

for making swan omelettes.

Wullie, in that snow photo with group of cockers is the one in the middle a black and tan? Looks just like Wynnie.

That cocker is "Dax" ...he is black, white and tan. He is a direct son of Druid's if I remember correctly. I don't look at my dogs pedigrees very much.

I always love seeing pictures of Dax, I love that colour. Mind you I tend to like every colour of cocker I see so its a good thing I don't have any space for more dogs lol.
