Even to the point where I was told Ian Openshaw himself was fuming! So I phoned him up! And got an earful of verbal abuse and the phone put down on me. So now, I either don't bother posting on this forum my opinion or I will PM. I was accused of slander, the works. What would happen if I put something on about certain ftchs stud dogs because they are undershot (there are some that are and are pushed no end by people), some ftch stud dogs that squeak, some that have produced bad legs, the works. It's a case of looking and learning for yourself, you can't ask on an open forum, you need to get to know these dogs. I for one will not go and use a dog at stud without having seen it work and having looked in it's mouth. The owner shouldn't mind, they are charging you after all and should have nothing to hide.
This is very much what happens (and will continue to do so) because of a 'we don't talk about that openly' attitude. I remember when it was posted that 5 dogs went out for 'mouthing' at the IGL championship and I re-posted (no dog names were mentioned or handlers), well all hell broke loose  Apparently, this could hurt someone's feelings and now pretty much all first hand reports from various events are now being 'censored' for any information which may include reasons for why a dog has been put out. Nobody like to talk openly about it as they fear the reaction that Helen had but the same people are happy to talk about it privately and I had it confirmed (privately ;) ) that mouthing actually seemed to be an 'issue' that year in retriever trials. Difficult to try and improve on your working dogs if a) dogs are not put out of trials for it b) kept a 'lid on' .

Trialling and making up dogs involves a lot of hard work and a huge amount of money so everyone is quite keen on protecting their investment and wouldn't like to miss out on future earnings.

Would you get both in a Springer?

Very well put Helen......it's totally ok for Ian Openshaw to slag off other people's dogs though!!

If I may ask a question? Why the hostility toward Openshaw?

... bit slow on the uptake today, SP? The implication is that nobody dare say on an open forum - didn't you read Helen's earlier post.

Ah. My apologies, I'm a very simple man. Easily troubled.
