I don't recall seeing anyone anti testing and pro trialling. Perhaps you could remind us who sits in what camps, in your opinion.

agree with this- not a nice place to be.Judy wrote:However, I can't imagine how devastating it must be for those who have inadvertently bred affected pups - it would be my worst nightmare and I might become more aggressively pro testing had it happened to me.
but there is one thing being pro testing, and another ramming it down throats. I have tested, because it was cheap and my results are published - why??? because I am on this forum/facebook and heard about it. There are others who are not able to test/publish because they are not internet Savvy and probably spend more time with training/breeding plans instead of forum and facebook chatter.
but to point the finger at anyone else who "could" be implicated being "labelled/blamed" for things for the risk of spreading AMS is not really what should be done here. this could be seen to be done to try and point the finger as such, and remove the heat of where AMS has come from.
as said, there was plenty discussion about testing, top trialers not testing etc.
yet Rytex post recently about testing.
its not a 2 day process from deciding to test to getting results. that means Ian had started the process with X factor a month or so ago, he might well have only been informed about it then.

I don't think Trialling people per se are the enemy but on this forum in particular there seems to be a clear split between between some of those who Trial and some who breed health tested pups, which often leads to threads becoming somewhat tetchy.
Getting mad, casting aspersions and sniping on threads such as this is not the way to go so lets all pull together please.

I'm sorry, I phrased that badly, I didn't mean non-testing Triallers but, on here, some people get very tetchy when it comes to threads re testing and there appears to be a clear divide between some competitive people and some breeders who are less so, each side getting very defensive and somewhat unpleasant. All I'm asking, both as a Moderator and someone who cares about the breed and wants whats best for Cockers as a whole, is that everybody tries to keep it pleasant because, as has been seen elsewhere, if we don't it actually has the opposite effect to the one we all want - good healthy dogs. Getting ratty and sniping does nobody any good so perhaps go away, have a cuppa, calm down then reply, please everyone!

I agree, am I missing something or are some of the comments in this thread relating to stuff posted elsewhere? Or am I just getting older and even more senile? One of the benefits of which is retirement which means I can both train my dogs and write posts on here.scot-ish wrote:agree with this- not a nice place to be.Judy wrote:However, I can't imagine how devastating it must be for those who have inadvertently bred affected pups - it would be my worst nightmare and I might become more aggressively pro testing had it happened to me.

Re: AMS in cockers.
seems to be trialling people who are doing most of the testing right now!
Re: AMS in cockers.
I'm not saying they aren't! I'm just trying to work out why there is so much aggro on here when we are all saying the same thing...

Very simple.
There are those that test and do very little else that want to sit in an ivory tower looking down on everyone else claiming for whatever reason they are the only ones that have the welfare of the breed at heart, whilst those that compete are the root of all evil.
It looks like more dogs being tested from trialling homes than any other, except the few that have tested due to direct and indirect links to known carriers/affected dogs.
The issue is when people attempt to bully, emotionally blackmail and use distorted facts and figures to Support their views it will always lead to some digging their heels in.
If someone chooses not to test, that's their choice, if someone chooses not to publish the results, that's their choice.
I find it amazing that we can demand people publish the results, demonise those that haven't, yet scream blue murder should anyone mention the name of an affected dog.
It wasn't long ago everyone was terrified of PRA carriers, all our dogs were going to go blind, now they'll all eat their feet and be destroyed, what next? Who knows, but I guarantee when whatever is next crops up, PRA and AMS will be forgotten.
The sooner the witch hunt ends and we can get back to sensible breeding and enjoying our dogs the better for all concerned.

Re: AMS in cockers.
Good to see Rytex kennels tested their two main cocker stud dogs Ftch Mallowdale gun and Ftch Mallowdale X factor and both are clear. Hoping others will follow their lead
