Scotland/UK referendum
Re: Scotland/UK referendum
Just like to point out that neither the Yes nor No camps have exclusive rights to making claims over Patriotism.

Re: Scotland/UK referendum
As far as the oil is concerned -
I own property on Shetland and can confirm that the Sullom Voe oil terminal is near the completion of a truly huge refit and enlargement.
Once this is completed works will start on a new even larger terminal on the other side of the Voe (inlet)
No accommodation is available on the islands - hence the 4 huge floating accommodation barges (or old prison ships if you're being pedantic) berthed at Lerwick
BP have recently spent tens of millions building an executive hotel for their big wigs to stay in during visits
It is widely known on the Islands about the new fields being discovered.
Would all this be done for a dwindling resource that's about to run out
Don't think so !!!!

Cuda, no one is denying that, but even the experts can't be certain upon how much is left. However, to suggest that 'the truth' is being hidden from Westminster & shareholders is nuts.
This isn't really about oil or the pound or whether we'll be better off or not, the referendum is about whether or not you want Scotland to be an independent country. If you want an independent country then the cost should be immaterial. Scotland obviously can make it on its own & choose whatever currency it likes, but even the Nats agree that there are uncertainties, & the economic cycle of any country goes in slumps & booms. It will be, & already is, highly divisive whichever way the vote goes. And I'm not sure why the separatists think things will change so radically when much could already have been done. They seem to think that we'll be immune from market forces, but we'll still have our share of fat cats taking their fat bonuses & claiming that Scotland needs them because otherwise it won't attract the right people, while we'll still have a poor underclass. And financial scandal & impropriety isn't just restricted to the City, the Scottish Banks have had their noses in the same trough, & are just as grubby/greedy - RBS is just the latest of them to get found out.
Salmond has already admitted that we can't do it all on our own, & we'll need to attract several million immigrants to help support our aging demographic. He's also said that it's going to take 10 - 15 years to get to where a government of his would want to be. What is becoming clear is that any post separatist negotiation period, currently considered to be a matter of a few months, is grossly understated & more likely to take anything up to 10 years to conclude. All very well for a young blood like TJ but I'm getting too old to live through 10 years of strife before we reach Alex's promised land.

I do not mind giving ten years for my kids and grand kids to have a better country to live in reflecting on the values of the populace not the thoughts of someone or political party we do not vote for.
