I stand corrected, never heard of a rabbit trial.
My apologies

At one time Scottish spaniel triallers used to joke that the English were frit to run in their trials because they were often held on rabbits, which were then in short supply south of the border.

I used to live in a Spaniel trainers dream when it came to rabbits but RHVD was introduced over 15 years ago, wiped them out almost overnight and they've never recovered!

I've only been to a few rabbit trials (as a spectator) and I found them to be far more interesting/exciting than the more usual pheasant trials. At the first rabbit trial I went to about 45 years ago , I got so excited during the run-off for 1st place , that when a rabbit ran from behind the guns that the dogs had missed , I yelled out " Rabbit behind you !" All went silent and then I was taken aside ....just before I got lynched.....and was then told the etiquette of trials in no uncertain manner !

Well I didn't know, did I ?

   I've run a Flatcoat in a couple of mock Trials on rabbits, just walking them up with the dogs at heel, that was fun. I still remember walking along at the back of the pack behind the other "competitors" and my dog flushing a rabbit after ten others had walked over it, little beggars can sit really tight when they want.

I have trained with other A panel judges and I really recomend Graham West and Nick Gregory.
Obviously there are so many more great trainers but I can only comment on the ones that I have actually trained with.
What was it about Mr openshaw that you found so "obvious"
Genuine question 👍
I've used several trainers, but found Opie's standards are the highest

Depends on what you want from a dog doesn't it? If you want a top Trialling dog you go to a different Trainer than someone who wants a straightforward picking up dog.
