If it's not a raptor you're phoning about and preferably a dead one at that, the RSPB never do want to know. Perhaps that's a topic for yet another rant.bellypig wrote:Rookie I tried to phone them and they told me to phone the RSPCA, i

When I was a boy I was a member of the S.S.P.C.A. I remained a member until an officious inspector of that organisation saw me fishing one day ,stopped his vehicle and came over to tell me I was being cruel ! I haven't been a member since then.

This countries justice system……..
Way back in October we were burgled along with several other people in the village. We’d got people staying with an elderly dog so we hadn’t set the alarm because they said they needed to be in and out several times during the night. He came back a few days later in the early hours of the morning when I was in the house on my own. He’d rifled through a large wooden chest we keep by the back door which we keep wellies and boots in, obviously looking for a key and when he didn’t find one tried to force his way in setting the alarm off and scaring me to death.
When I rang the police they really weren’t that interested as he hadn’t actually got into our house or stolen anything.
Despite having CCTV footage of the person the police failed to recognise him as someone local who’d been released from prison that very week after serving a sentence for similar burglaries in the village.
A couple weeks later his mother found stuff in her house belonging to us and other folks in the village so she rang us to tell us.
We contacted the police and they managed to arrest him a few days later. They needed reminding as they didn’t realise they’d got our CCTV footage!
Now despite them having enough evidence to convict him of ours and other burglaries that same night and because his mother recognised him on CCTV footage of an armed robbery 3-4 years earlier. The CPS decided because he pleaded not guilty to the both the robbery and the burglaries to proceed with the armed robbery charges only. Fair enough I suppose it did carry a longer sentence and he had seriously hurt a poor woman working in the post office. We have heard today that he will be released from custody on Friday without going to court because the police have lost the evidence from the Post Office robbery i.e. the weapon, his cap, all the DNA evidence together with the CCTV footage of that incident.
All they have left apparently is a few stills taken off the CCTV footage so even with his mothers evidence the CPS think it is not enough to convict him.
This young man has a serious drug habit and is known to be violent, he will come out of prison with no job or money so what are the chances of him coming straight out and immediately re-offending like he did last time?
Also what about his poor mother who did the decent thing and I admire her courage
but is now I should imagine very afraid of what’ll he’ll do to her.
I can feel a lot off sleepless nights coming on.

OMG that is dreadful! Can you not try a private prossicution? Level of evidence is much lower and whilst it may not result in a long sentance it may put him out of circulation for a while and I would also be looking at a complaint about the police loosing evidence indicates extreamly poor procedures which you should flag up as needing addressign at the very least
Re: random rant
I can totally empathise with your situation following a similar problem where I live. What do the police need to protect the public, or are they completely useless due to taking the politically correct approach.

I must admit to having a bit of a Victor Meldrew moment when I heard, I really could not believe it.
Honestly all they seem capable of doing is hammering the motorists or that is becoming my perspective from my dealings with them.
