Now don't you go getting his hopes up with false promises or raising his excitement levels, it's not good for his ticker... :naughty:

As a therapist I love the techniques being used here to effect a good patient outcome. According to the psychologists' attribution theory sick people either internalize or externalize the cause of the malady. So one might say I got a cold because I am prone to colds at this time of year and another might say I picked a cold because there's a lot of it about at the moment. You're supposed to adjust your treatment approach accordingly to motivate the patient.
Having said all that I am missing this column and it's just not good enough! Anyway nothing wrong with a scattergun approach as applied by others: stick-lazy git, carrot- drink whiskey if you get better.

Rumours of my demise have been exaggerated but I'm not fooled by Robert's offer of whisky at Sunday's training day. Last time I fell for that I got a bottle of whisky all-right .... a miniature ! All that did was torture my tongue and my tonsils .
I'm not at my brightest and best but I'm no deid yet !

Almondell Country Park - 12.30 P.M. - Heavy and persistent drizzle and strong cold winds.

Dogs - Charlie, Billy, Dax and Dixie.

I didn't walk far and I chose to walk where I had no hill to climb. Other than a couple of whistle recalls given when the dogs got more than 50 yards away among the cover I left the dogs alone to enjoy themselves since they haven't been out much for several days. Dax went through a fence bordering the wood I was walking through and tore off into the rough grass field beyond. I wondered what the hell he was doing until he went head down into the grass and flushed a hen pheasant. I estimate he winded that bird from 40 yards away ...... pity he's not a pointer !

Dixie did her whirlygig beetle thing most of the time and made me dizzy. Charlie went mouse and vole hunting and Billy , who was a hippo in his last existence, found himself the filthiest, muddiest ditch he possibly could and had himself a wallow in the stinking black, deep ooze. He lies out flat in these places and then rolls, he's in the bad books !

I'm hoping for better weather tomorrow , I want to take Dixie and Rosie out on my local estates remaining pheasants while I can before they start nesting.

Tough love seems to be working! But that trick with the miniature is surely treachery worthy of the English!!

I've done a bit of writing on a couple of U.S. fora recently. It's a bit different than posting onto here. If you go on one of those fora and try to impress when you haven't got much to impress with you get mangled and hung out to dry. It has taken 4 years of seeing my scribblings on a U.S. fora before some of it's denizens began to accept that I was not some sort of infiltrating fluffy, tree hugger ! I questioned the need for using F.F. and e- collars on just about every dog, that didn't go down too well despite the fact that I'd said that although I would not train a gundog F.F. I would use an e-collar ...... IF I had to.

I think that the Americans are too "pro" e- collar use while in this country we are too anti e-collar. There's got to be a happy medium somewhere ? Maybe in mid-Atlantic !
I have noticed several times after posting into a U.S. fora about other ways to get around retrieve problems that the thread comes to a very abrupt end . The Americans seem to be "training programme" daft and all of those programmes seem to revolve around F.F., Chain gangs and e-collars. My scatterbrained way of training dogs is pretty alien to them and I think I am now tolerated as "that crazy Scots git !"
I kinda like our cousins from across the pond , when not too flabbergasted by my witterings I get back a good class of insults and a few compliments.

Thank heaven. This post was meant to be above Wullie's post about American writing! So I was referring to seeing him posting again.
