Which jacket?

Post by druid »

I was lucky enough to be bought an aigle lomyland 3 in 1 jacket, which is lovely but doesn't fit properly, so will have to be returned. It doesn't seem to have any shape, so it is tight on the bust and hips but ok everywhere else!

Therefore I am now looking for a replacement, and I wondered what other ladies prefered to wear out beating. What is good and what is not! I have been looking but it is a bit of a minefield!

Thanks

I've got a Sealand jacket, had it about 5 years and it was well worth the money, it's still keeping me dry. I think it was about £175. I'm a bit short so have problems finding clothes that fit but it has a drawstring waist so I at least it gives me a bit of shape.

I have a Musto coat which I bought at a Game Fair years ago which is lighweight and really comfy, but from what I've seen of other peoples coats etc, is that you want to be dry & comfortable, but you want it to be fairly lightweight but durable.
Barbours like the oily ones are awful (imho!) if you're a beater as you're forever getting warm and then getting cold again, and barbours are heavy when it rains and when you get warm you get very warm!

Try loads on and see which suits you and then shop around for the best price.

Have a look on ebay, sportsman guncentre, uttings, john norris etc.

If you want to wait a few months, you might get yourself a bargain at a game fair and you have the opportunity to try loads on without travelling from shop to shop using petrol.
Too many Springers, and Roxie the black cocker.

Hi,

I’m the same as Milly, my Seeland jacket is the same age and still going strong, so are the trousers although I gave em to a mate coz they’d shrunk after being hung in the cupboard over the summer. The jacket has not once let wet either…

I think they have replaced it with a new one that doesn’t state it’s waterproof now.

Musto Girls advise is good too if you can live without one till the Game Fair (can’t believe we are talking about that right now but there ya go… :o ). Some real bargains to be had especially on the Sunday.

I'm 5'4 so could be approached by Willy Wonker as a chocolate taster (I wish)

I've got a sealand that I keep for cold days but got a deerhunter shelbrook for nice bright days and a tweed for cold and wet...wouldn't it be nice to find a one does all coat lol ...

I have the seeland keeper jacket ( in a kids size !) If you are a smaller lady (i'm a size 10 but usually like my jackets roomy, and the age 14 fits really well) then consider the kids sizes. It was also reduced from £90 to £60 in a sale. It has all the functionality of the adults. Jacqui.

I've got several. Musto tweed, Musto keeper, Paramo and a Nomad that I can think of right now. The Paramo's too good for pheasant beating. It'd be ripped in no time.

For general use I like my Derhunter lady charlotte best. It's not the heaviest or warmest on really very cold days, but I don't like jackets too neat and have room for a fleece under it and it's fine. Pockets in the right places and a hood that actually works and is removable. The padded trousers are good on a cold day too.
Happiness is where we find it, but rarely where we seek it.

Other half has a great dual layer coat, lightweight outer and a detachable thermal inner quilted layer which can double up as a quilted jacket thing for dry days. She likes them because they are shaped and cut nicely...schoffel is the brand name. not cheap mind. http://www.schoffel.co.uk/catalogue/fem ... oats-2/-46

As a handler, its impossible to make your dog perform better than it is, but very easy to make it perform far worse.
