Yesterday I ran my young Clumber spaniel in our first field trial. It was organised by the Working Clumber Spaniel Society, an all aged stake for minority spaniel breeds.
We got 2nd place (first wasn't awarded) guns' choice and a special award for best novice dog! I am absolutely over the moon There is some nice silverware on my mantle piece now.

It is not that uncommon for places (1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th) not to be awarded. It is not just a case that out of all the runners one has to come first, one second, one third and so on. There is more criteria to the judges giving the awards. Some of the more experienced triallers here might be able to give a clearer and better answer. I was very very happy with my awards and in the summing up at the prize giving the judges said that I came very close to being awarded a first.

Two Sussex spaniels and one Welsh springer. The welshie and one of the Sussex won COMs. 2nd, 3rd and 4th place went to Clumbers. All three of them Sedgehurst Clumbers!
