Re: Gundog illness Worcester area
This is terrible, very upsetting indeed. Have there been any reported incidents of areas in the north of the Country? Herefordshire/Worcestershire close to each other but then Sussex, symptoms similar, seems strange that post mortems haven't found anything! My thoughts are with you poor people that have unfortunately lost dogs to this.

Could any of these dogs have been anywhere near sewage treatment plants or pumping station sites. There have problems in the past during period of heavy rain or flooding for untreated waste to be released or otherwise find its way into the open environment. Any system that surcharges is likely to end up in a water course or ditch before its due time.

Passing on a comment from a friend.
A family member remembers an incident in Scotland about 20-30 years ago where about 20 dogs died with similar symptoms rash/lesions.
It turned out that the cause was illegal spraying with DDT at a very high concentration.
Does anyone know if the vets for the Post Mortems have specifically checked for pesticide residues?
My heart goes out to those people who have lost their dogs in this way.

It seems that a resistant strain of Lepto is the likely culprit.

I also tragically lost a dog in similar circumstances recently. A young fit strong healthy dog just about to start his trialling career. He was a very special dog to me, so please be vigilant I would hate this to happen to anyone else.

Is this the "Alabama rot" that has been in the papers recently?
We had a dog come back from the (very muddy) shoot recently and I had not washed him which I usually do. A couple of days later he had raw areas under his armpits and belly covered in white spots. The vet gave him antibiotics and squeezed some of the bigger spots. Cleared it up but it did look as if it would have got nasty if left.
