Some of the top trailers, when I've asked them, have never heard of Charlie!!

Yet Charlie Peel, now that man CAN just train a dog! Nice guy and very knowledgeable and so very very experienced!!!!
What he doesn't know about training a trial spaniel isn't worth knowing.
A calm, relaxed trainer who has trained many of the very best dogs.
If you are looking to him for training then you are tapping in to many years of knowledge, experience and even more knowledge and experience, he has trained some of the very best dogs to have been on the circuit past and present.
I like Charles, nice, modest, can train a soft dog or a hard dogs, a nice guy.
I just wish I was closer to him to train with as he has offered me out shooting/training a few times now but work hasn't allowed it, hope to be going up next month sometime though for a bit of a bash :-)

Being in Staffs he's not too far for you.

U would have thought the fact that she knew he's schooled dogs for Ian would have been enough , anyway she has found out what she needed to know . Result

If you aren't in to trialling it may not matter a toot to you who is who in the Trials world! Asking a polite question should always result in a sensible answer regardless of whether you think there may be some hidden agenda or paranoia implicit. Truth will always out and the Mods are pretty good at taking out the offensive stuff if and when it happens.

Anyway, I'm glad you have a sensible reply, Newbie, its now up to you whether you still want to trial or maybe stick with the working side. Whichever you decide please carry on posting and letting us know how your pup progresses.

Are you going to leave the dog with the trainer or visit the trainer for lessons? My preference would be the second as its the best way to learn how to handle the dog as well as train it for Trials. Good luck whatever you decide.

Newbie2014 wrote:Hello, who is Charlie Peel? Heard a lot about him and have heard he is an exceptional spaniel trainer who even professional dog handlers use? Apparently he trained this years cocker championship winner?

Just to add to my post and to answer you other questions, yes Charlie trains a lot of the top handlers dogs, some A panels dogs are entrusted to him to train for them and some handlers who have been in the championships many times run dogs that have been given to him to be trained for them, then handed back when it's ready to go out and win, which usually happens. They hand the lead over and say, "there you go Charlie, sort that one out!" And he does, time and time again.

Like I said, he is one of the very best spaniel trainers around and many don't know of him due to him just being in the background and never running his mouth of saying he has trained this dog and that dog, but his list of dogs is nothing short of outstanding and impressive (some of the great FTCH's have been schooled by him) , yet never takes any credit for it. But then again the people who used him don't thank him either during their winners speeches. He's a humble man, one of the very very best.

He also knows a good dog when he sees them, he should do as he's trained hundreds! He can tell you if your wasting your time or if your dog has the potential to go all the way. He saw my young winning dog at 15 weeks old (I was at Ian's kennels for a mating) and told me to concentrate on him as he's as good as you get! He's not wrong there so far either!

Good luck with your training with him, listen and learn from him, he knows what he's doing.
