Thankyou for letting me see the "Jazz" photograph Beechasam. She must give you pleasure every time you see her. Wish I had seen her hunt for I am curious to know if she hunts with the same sort of "flat" pattern that Dax usually has. Obviously this could not be seen among thick cover but on rashy ground Dax does have a flat and fairly regular sort of pattern if he is hunted into a headwind.
Your bitch seems to have the same determination to complete her retrieves that Dax always shows ....sometimes he shows it a bit too much ! Is she a crackpot keen water dog ? Dax jumps headlong into any water available which is why I never take him on any of my fishing holidays down in England. I also never take him onto piers or harbours ,he'd dive off the end. He has on several occasions went down underground water culverts after birds or even just for fun. I have been worried sick until I see him come bobbing up again at the far end of the water sluice with the bird in his mouth.
He wasn't too keen on water when I first got him but it didn't take him long to develop a love of it. I have owned labs and spaniels that loved water before but I don't think any of them loved it as much as Dax does.

She loves water, I was stalking in Argyll a few years back and at the end of the garden there was a fast flowing river, at this time it was quite swollen and the brown peaty water was white with foam as it hit the rock. She stood watching from the sides when she was hit by a wave of foam and was washed down stream, all I could see in the foam was a small brown heading bobbing up and down. I thought I'd lost her. I started to run along the bank and the current brought he into the sides at the edge of the next pool. She emerged tail wagging, made her way back to the same rock and repeated the process two more times.
The second time I couldn't believe it, the third I recorded on my phone.

I think she enjoyed it!!
When my dog was 7 months she did a similar thing in glencoe and the waters of Nevis.
I was upto my thighs wading out to rescue her but each time she found her way out before I caught up! Didn't follow all the nuaces of this thread but it's very interesting. J sounds a beaut. Mind sharing her kc name BC? I like checking out pedigree connections. Particularly interested if she goes back to Maes Kestral. T

Wullie if you get the chance to visit David, have a look at the young cocker bitch pup he's bringing on she's a belter. Not been up there since before xmas, some inconsiderate haulage companies want to cross my palm with silver to shunt goods round the country and the usual post xmas lull simply hasn't happened this year which is why I've been a wee bit quiet of late.
I wondered where you had got to ! It isn't likely I'll be driving down to David's unless I win the lottery , the car I bought this afternoon is a thirsty bugger .
