Cover Crop

Post by Michelleo »

My husband has very kindly offered to grow a strip of cover crop in my training paddock. What do those in the know suggest we grow?

It will primarily be used for training with spaniels. The land does get wet in the winter but hasn't gone under water in the past 3 years as the area we are proposing to use is at the higher end of the paddock. It will be a strip measuring approx 20" x 40".

Thank you in advance for your help!

He must be as old as me then cos I read it as inches " being the sign for inch when I were a lass.

Check the Shooting Times website, there was an article on cover crops a few weeks ago, it should be on there by now.

All very well planting a cover crop for training. But will there be any bird scent? If not all you may succed in doing us teaching ur dog to bounce cover.
I would avoid canary grass. As when it gets goin yiu wont see your dog.
Again my main concern would be lack of scent
A Spaniel that hunts but will not retrieve is only half a gun dog, and even those that are `sometimes retrievers` are totally unsatisfactory.
