Extravagent toys (shotguns)

Just a quick question,

does anyone here shoot with a Beretta Silver pigeon V? i currently have a Winchester 101xtr lightweight which i shoot really well with, and as the title suggests its a great walking gun and the recoil is very well dampened considering its weight.

As i type, somewhere between here and heathrow is a fancy new walnut stock for my gun. however i am having a buyers remorse period, in that the wood i have chosen seems far to posh for my old beat up Winchester (exhibition grade ). so was toying with buying a BSP V then upgrading the stock for a true custom shotgun. this would then be my "best toy" but would sell some camera equipment to fund it, stuff that`s also expensive but is sitting idle. ( a bit like me)!

so thoughts welcomed, good or bad and who shoot`s with the above or a variant of the SP.

Although I am a little biased toward side by sides, the Beretta V is a beauty. Light enough to carry on extended rough shoots and if you get an English stock they don't look half bad. The 12 and the 20 are both fantastic guns to shoot and if you like over unders you won't be disappointed.

A friend who knows a lot more about guns than I do said that most Berettas have the same mechanics, what you pay extra for is the fancy folderols on the outside. I have a Beretta Silver Pigeon S, 20g. I have oil finished the stock myself - the photo shows the stock with an end piece that was removed to shorten it that shows the untreated wood. The problem with upgrading to a very good stock is whether you will get to anxious about rain, scratches etc.

I love mine, when I first brought it I only used it for posh driven days then after the first scratch I use it all the time pigeon shooting crow bashing and driven, I did moan a few times to the wife about it being a bit heavy for walked up over the dogs so all by herself she went out and brought me a matching 20bore that is ace

It's a Beretta ! They're well made and well balanced it's all down to personnel preference . I sold mine to fund an old English gun (which I have since broken the stock on )
It really is going to be about what you want , but the people that matter are the ones that congratulate you on clean kills not a pretty gun !

Went to David Olive and got measured then had Chaplins at Winchester alter the stock to fit.

It's not my gun but I used a BSP on Keepers day this year. I found it comfortable to carry all day and will be looking to purchase one in the future for my own use. That said, I'm hardly an expert.

my best mate had a 20b at college which i shot really well with but he sold it and as a poor student at the time could not afford to buy it from him.

going to see another friend who has one and see if i can get out on the clays with one again. i do a bit of wood work, and this is sort of a major "school" type project. something ive wanted to do for a long time, as this will be my only ever one time type of gun.

Buying a Grade 5 gun to restock it seems a bit of a waste IMO. Additionally your fore end won't match the stock unless the wood happens to be similar and you finish the stock in the same way.

As said all SPs are built on the same action, only the engraving, finishing and stock quality vary. I shoot with Berettas and have an SP, they are good reliable guns with very little against them if they fit. If you prefer a boxier Browing type action it may not suit you.
