Kronch Pemikan bars

Post by greenshank1 »

Hi

Just wondered if anyone had used Kronch Pemikan bars and what they thought of them ? My other half was hill walking with the dog yesterday along the South Glen Sheil ridge which is 7 Munros (12 hours walking and around 1800 m ascent in total ) and gave the dog several pieces of the Pemikan bar throughout the length of the day and she reckoned it gave the dog a boost. So much so the dog was still flushing coveys of ptarmigan out the scree on the last top. :-D

I use it and swear by it. To the point where I used it one day a few years ago on a pointer day at lunchtime for my bitch who was working her heart out and doing all the running with some brilliant work in the morning. After lunch and her kronch bar she cast off, had a point on a hare that she was steady to and then took the line of the hare, went completely off the whistle and buggered off completely! I blame the Kronch bar :o but actually she has done it since

Thanks Helen

Excellent a proven energy source and an excuse for bad behaviour

I have one but not used it yet, however the Lady at Kronch who owns it, said only to use (one ) square.
I do not think you should be giving a whole bar in a day.!! That cannot be good for a dog.
The Kronch products are V good though, my Cocker loves the Salmon treats and I use the salmon oil in his food.

I've never dared give any after reading about Helen's Pointer! I'm sure my cocker would do the same, she doesn't need any 'boosting'!
cheers,
Alice.

I too swear by it on long cold days picking up, and on the grouse also, really does what it says on the tin and much better for them than a pork pie or mars bar etc which doesn't work with my lot but the pemmikan bars do, I wouldn't be without them.

The funniest thing was (now, at the time I was in tears!!!) she got to the top of the Munro, pointed ptarmigan, chased hares, ran and ran and ran, she was gone all afternoon and when she appeared she wasn't even panting! Obviously very good stuff! I used it at a trial once after her first run was long and the conditions were cold and wet, she went off like a rocket in her second run! To be used with caution but absolutely brilliant stuff. Why else would husky racers use it?

quite! I think you, Nic and probably some of the other scottish/Irish members are probably the only ones on here who have to run their dogs in the super-hard conditions that necessitate using it- us Southern softies would send the dogs into overdrive with them!
cheers,
Alice.

I have used this product recently, but not for a energy boost. I had two dogs go down with a stomach bug recently, and go of their food for a few days. You have to work at keeping weight on them something, as they don't always want to eat massive portions in the heat. So I feed these two 3 meals a day, and that dose the trick. I used the bars when we were out and about and giving them kibble was not appropriate.

Dose anyone make their own homemade version? I can see it getting quite exspencive if your using this while running 4,5+ dogs multiple times a week through the season.
