Hunting with Springers, Finland
Hunting with Springers, Finland
In life, it is important to know when to stop arguing with people and simply let them be wrong.

Handler is my friend Juha Lindroth who won Swedish AV Championship with that more black springer. The white-faced springer was third there. Juha is top class handler and trainer and also a very nice chap.

Very Nice! My wife's grandparents were from Finland. It is good to see spanieling doing well there. Thanks for posting!

I must say i like the idea of going over seas to shot over spaniels on different types of ground and game. I might have to make a tick list
If it was easy it wouldn't be so much fun.

Why, you'd have a fun olde time, James - whether 'twas north of the Mason-Dixon LineJames wrote:I must say i like the idea of going over seas to shot over spaniels on different types of ground and game. I might have to make a tick list

or south of it

or right smack underneath it

if you were to come overseas in our direction.

Those dogs are gorgeous. So long and lean. Almost makes me want a springer... almost :-P That duck hunting at the beginning was real intriguing... Would that be what you folks call jump shooting? Does the dog typically hunt like that in the water and flush ducks?

I will one day for sure crackerd, I would like to try and see a trial at the same time too. Lots to fit in at some point, having sent a few dogs over sea's it would be nice to see how things differ first hand.

Re: Hunting with Springers, Finland
Our own Gundogguy would be the man to see about a dog...trial - springer or cocker trial - in these parts, James. He's made up FTCh's and knows the lay of the land - especially his land up there near the Great Lakes - as good as anybody. Our retriever trials (or working tests) would also be good value for taking in - if only to see how "ridiculous" they can be in difficulty, especially the FTs. Spaniels (some of them, like the Boykin) can compete in our KC-sanctioned retriever tests, but obviously not in retriever trials. But to route this thread back toward Scandinavia, would anyone know if spaniels there are limited to their own breed events, or if they can participate in retrieving competition, too?

Lovely video. Handlers so calm and controlled and dogs just working beautifully. I too love those slim agile springers.
