Re: Docking tail letter
It surprised me to read this. Many people involved in beating and/or picking-up on shoots do not have a shotgun.westcountry wrote:When we bred our litter the vet wanted to see a shotgun certificate to prove the dogs were working gundogs.
I suppose that is where a landowners letter enters the picture ?

Maybe a surprise Wullie but that is what the vet asked for. As I do not own a shotgun myself the vet settled for a photocopy of the sires owners shotgun certificate.

Re: Docking tail letter
There is a list of 'proofs' on the certificate. These are:
Armed forces ID, emergency rescue ID, police ID, prison ID, HMRC ID, evidence that the owner/agent/employee will be using the dog for lawful pest control, a current shotgun/firearms certificate of the owner/agent/employee likely to be using the dog for the lawful shooting of animals, or a letter from a gamekeeper/land owner/ person with shooting rights/ shoot organiser/ club official/ national working terrier federation official/person involved in lawful pest control stating the breeder is known to them and that dogs bred by the breeder have been used on his land or shoot or for pest control.
Of course none of these is a huge amount of 'proof' but it's what the law says!
