dummies

Post by claira »

hi im training my first spaniel and have the following issue. if I throw out 2 dummies in different directions and send her out to either one, she collects one and instead of bringing it back runs straight out to collect the second before bringing the first back. then tries to fit the two in her mouth. she is fine if its just one dummy but at times even if I use one will start searching for a second even though its no there. any advice would be great.

hi. hows her recall? can you send her out stop and recall before the retrieve? can you intercept her before she gets the second dummy.

Hello

I would go back to using one dummy and get that masterd first so she is coming straight back to you and she will realise there is not another one to hunt for untill you put one out.

Cheers Rawry.

I'd go back to using No dummies first! ;) and get that mastered, before re-introducing one dummy.

her recall is great, she will stop to the whistle and change direction to whistle. she just gets so excited when the dummies are used.

Use a rope or long line to bring her back. Try throwing the dummies 180 degrees apart so she has to first come to you to go to the memory mark.

put yourself between her and the second, so she can't get to it, and don't immediately send for one then the other, keep her guessing, sometimes keep sending in one direction for 2 or 3 goes, and then go to the second, don't do it in a routine.
cheers,
Alice.

Also throw two and pick one before sending her for the other, vary which one you pick.
