You beat me to it!
Re: Chewing nails and pads causing real damage
Latest development in sensory neuropathy / acral mutilation syndrome.
Antagene have developed the DNA test for this in ESS. They have also tested the affected cocker who has proved positive and I have just had a clear result on the bitch I kept from his dam's litter. They stipulate that she is clear of AMS and WILL NOT pass it on to any offspring.
I sincerely hope that we have just been unlucky in coming across this dreadful condition and that no one out there has been keeping quiet about any dogs they might know of with it. I have my suspicions about where it might have come from but without the KC insisting on certain dogs being tested (and that goes for any testable condition) then it's going to be impossible to prove.

Our Dog Bailey was put to sleep two weeks ago he had a severe case of AMS at first we had hoped it was a boredom thing with the biting and chewing so we then went on to explore other avenues with this and eventually got a D.N.A test done it came back as a 98% result of A.M.S
we were gutted to get this result Bailey was on 15 tablets a day to cope with this illness and numerous bandages on his foot we tried the dog cone and he just ripped everything off his foot and at one time got through his cone
some reports of A.M.S. say there is no pain with A.M.S. but come the end Bailey definatly had some pain in his foot as he would not put it down
i have emailed lots of vets with this about Bailey to raise awarness we live in Guernsey and got Bailey from Alderney which is a small island off Guernsey he is a Raynestone dog
if any one reads this and would like some pictures of Baileys foot please email me on mmahy50@gmail.com
