He was taught steadiness very early to dummies Also he attended training classes where 20 or so spaniels sat in a circle whilst dummies were thrown about. Training in a group is good as it gets your dog steady to watching other dogs retrieve as they sit still. If you can sit your dog and throw all your dummies out around it,without the dog moving, then you are on the right lines to steadiness.
Well west country, I can but keep trying to improve us. I just wish that I had taken the decision to work her when she first came to live with us then I could have started off earlier. As it is I am having to work much harder at things but I like a challenge :)

Sit means sit means sit here - and it still means sit if I leave you on the place board, go get a cup of tea and come back! I get a lot of sitting in because I work several dogs and train them together which makes for a lot of steadiness training.

Don't settle for second best.

The problem is there isn't really a "half way" steady dog, it either is or it isn't, and if it isn't it will get worse!
