Hard (character) Cocker Stud

Post by Beno1978 »

Hi all

I'm looking to breed from my rather gentle natured cocker bitch next year and wondered what there was in about in terms of hard going dogs. Either FTW, OFTW or FTCh as I want some assurance that they are proven in terms working ability and free of faults - as much as a trial win can prove such attributes.

It seems to me that most prospective stud dogs tend to advertised as "easy to train" "gentle natured" "honest dog", that sort of thing etc which is probably what people want to hear. But whilst these are obviously desirable traits I am also after something that is very strong of character i.e. a super confident hunting machine that is known to be a head strong swine :-D

Basically I want a hard going old fashioned type of spaniel (if there is such a thing) as a stud dog to give me some chance of that trait passing on to some in the litter, which hopefully the one I keep will show.

Once I - hopefully - have a few suggestions I will look in detail at their breeding but first I would like some options of dogs with the character I am after.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Cheers

Why not speak to Andy Robinson about what might work with a Warlord offspring?
cheers,
Alice.

Romanriver - I'm a rough shooter and spanielman who's been off the scene for a few years. Got my first dog in a while having won a few field trial awards with my springers as a teenager.

Alice- many thanks for your advice, will do

Sadly he's also dead!

Will does have the type of cocker studs you're interested in though. Worth a call.
