My Lab will go through the thickest blackberry bushes, nothing will stop him if there is a bird in there.

Yep, I've even seen Labs in brambles!! And all of my Flatcoats were in there quite happily IF there was a bird to be got or flushed. Otherwise, what's the point in hurting yourself eh? Only Springers are that daft!

I'd love to see a flatcoat work, I met one on a shoot which was ditzy as hell and a local chap has a flatcoat which is the same. Maybe it is just the breeding..

Well, I needed another dog for picking up, didn't have room in the boot of the then current car for a third Flatcoat, always fancied a Cocker so a Cocker it was. We found out that Cockers are easier to train than Flatcoats, they take up less space, eat less and cost a lot less, plus there is more chance of getting a really good worker when you buy a Cocker. We often discuss how much we miss the Flatties but realistically a Cocker is easier to manage when you get older which is something we have started to think about given that our dogs have all lasted, so far, into double figures, buying a pup now means we'll be getting old by the time it shuffles off, all things being equal.

Of course having Cockers means I get all the shite jobs on the shoot, whereas the Retrievers get to stand out on the grass so there could be benefit to having another F/c...

My four year old Grandson will go through a BlackBerry bush! That is not tough cover. Come on guys, that is child’s play.
Be careful what you say about my wife or kids, be VERY careful what you say about my gundogs.

You haven't seen my blackberry bushes then! Must be little sparse ones on Dartmoor :)
