What bones can a puppy have

It is a three month old LM bitch. In the past my other dogs have had beef rib bones, breast of lamb, chicken wings, with no problems, as I used to raw feed. Would she be too young for any of the above, or any other ideas welcome. Thanks

Mine had beef ribs from that age, big enough to gnaw through teething. I personally kept chicken wings away till they were a bit older and I knew they had the jaw power to really break them up. Our family Lab once got a chicken bone wedged in his top palette between the teeth which caused him some distress, and I was dragged out of bed to remove it So I might be over cautious with them
My current Hyena goes through bones like no dog I have ever owned Chicken wings gone in seconds, beef ribs in about an hour, beef leg knuckles in about eight hours....and I mean gone!
She is also fed raw.

I feed chicken wings to 8-9 week old pups without any bother. Never liked beef bones, especially marrow bones. They wore the teeth down badly when I tried them. Much prefer lamb bones and just got hold of some chicken carcasses and they’re good.

Thanks Munsteyman and Naj for your helpful comments. My butcher gave me a couple of beef ribs, left my other half to keep an eye on her while I took other dogs out for a couple of hours. Came back and she was still on it, she had just tidied it up abit not made much impression really. She was exhausted though. I've shut one of the others in the kitchen to finish it off. I have chicken wings in the fridge, and I am pondering on giving one to her later, but I will probably 'chicken out' as I be worried if she polishes it off in seconds like your bitch MM. Thanks again.

I like lamb ribs for the Cockers, the bigger dogs got whatever bones were going.

Thanks Judy, yes I will ask the butcher for a breast of lamb cut up into ribs, should I trim the fat off abit do you think. Would lamb fat cause the runs in a pup?

I have found that dogs need to learn to handle bones, so start with easy ones. Hard gnawing bones are good, but I wouldn't leave them with the bones. Chicken necks are great too for young 'uns.

I will look into chicken necks, thank you. I know my daughter feeds chicken feet to her lab. I agree they have to be under supervision, even the bigger dogs need watching if only to stop them dragging them onto the rug in the front room!

I feed the lamb fat on the breast of lamb all through the year. It’s great for hard working dogs but even in the off season never causes tummy upsets. Pork bones are good but pork fat can cause issues.

I'm ashamed to admit I cut the meat and fat off the bones before giving them to the dogs. I do then boil the meat up and put a bit in with their kibble, that way they don't get too big a dose of fat at a time.
