Hi all
OK Im not a hunter, i respect the countryside and pursuits if done correctly. I'm a wildlife photographer and filmmaker, documenting nature and wildlife. Each to his own dont worry im not gunna bang on about ethics or anything.

I'm currently without a dog at the moment as ours died 3 months back, Im now looking for a german Wirehaired Pointer to train to help me track wildlife to photograph and document.

I love to photograph Deer, Foxes, Otters and badgers but obviously want a breed that will point of direction to track without flushing prey...though that may come down to training. I tend to photograph in woods and moors.

So look forward to the journey, if anyone knows of any GWP pups our young dogs, give me a shout.

Welcome to the forum Pete. I have done a lot of hunting over my own pointing dogs and quite a lot of photography too. Any of the better known pointing breeds will fulfil your requirements but none of them completely train themselves not too chase what they find. You would have to do a small amount of training but that sort of training is pretty easy. Be a wee bit careful about what creatures you encourage or permit your pup to point or the pup will end up pointing to every place where a sparrow has farted ! - - - - It would take you about an hour to walk 100 yards !

The breed you fancy was known as being prone to "hard mouth" ….they crunched birds and animals including foxes and stray cats ! Any dog of any breed can be hard mouthed but some breeds are "famous" for it.

Try contacting Rory Majors (google him) for a possible puppy. Rory used to be well known for having really good wirehairs but old age may have caught up with him now …..as it has with me !

Or do a google search for the breeds official club and take it from there.
