My formative years learning Woodsmisanship. the trekking, exploring woods. I did my own a Ruffed grouse observation.
The number of males and females. The types of food sources. The area was a regeneration area of about 8 years old. To learn ones Quarry and it' s behavior. It's early Spring and 18 grouse were located. This is without a dog. Bear my solid Liver GSP stayed home as thier not disturbed for the most part. This was a small section of a larger wood were I would estimate the total number of grouse at 58 birds. Bear's retrieving training and quartering were done in flat open fields near Bandi road.. Steady to the flush pigeon set in the bird releaser. The retrieving dummies was traditional spaniel retrieving training. Creating and maintaining a good trusting bond was the goal. Rewards and praise. Respect. Her temperament was nice. The outing maybe 2 1/2 hours but the training session was only 45 minuites. Conditioning walking on lead, and in general being a well socialized companion gundog. Introducing the leave it command. You can look at the farm cat as it walks through the field or on the dirt road, but we don't bother it all. Mike
