No problem Paul Spaniel this is what I PM'd to Flush1
Hi Flush
First welcome to the forum.
Where abouts are you? I am on the Isle of Skye and I have a five gen Rytex free stud dog. You can see him at http://www.sgurr.org.uk
- his call name is Glen, KC name Edgegrove Furrow. I do not work him as severe asthma and coming late to dogs has limited what I am able to do. He is very hard hunting and has pups in working homes in the UK and Germany - the son in Germany works with a Licensed Hunter on birds, hare, roe & red deer and wild boar.
At the other end of the country, have a look a Chris Bridgwater's site http://www.scherzando as she has a number of good studs with either little Rytex or Rytex free.
Also I'm fairly sure Newflame are pretty well Rytex -free.
I'm sure other people will give you some suggestions too.
Newflame are very dark if that is what you are looking for, Flash1
Cheers
Sgurr
Added a PS - What I also like about Jeremy Organ's Laddie is that he has progeny in Sweden and the USA where it is easy to get info on hip scores - all the dogs from him that I have traced effectively have single figure hip scores (different grading systems in the different countries) so you can get the breadth of the pedigree as well as the depth - very important for hips. If memory serves I think Laddie is not scored but Glen is 7 and his son Finn is 6 - current BVA Breed Mean Score for ESS is 14. So with Laddie you can be pretty confident of getting good hips and that gives the dog power in the hind legs. I haven't elbow scored but only 2.5% of ESS have elbow dysplasia and again where I've found an elbow score re Laddie's progeny there has been no problem.
Edit - wirh new searches I retract the elbow comment, the figure is much higher, Sgurr

IMO it is a good thing that people are maintaining bloodlines that are different to the fashionable ones for the genetic health of the breed. However, I wouldnt turn my nose up at a predominantly white, Rytex-bred springer!
The Rytex lines didnt drop out of the sky, and many of the supposed Rytex-free pedigrees contain common ancestors to the Rytex dogs.

As a handler, its impossible to make your dog perform better than it is, but very easy to make it perform far worse.

i totally agree with u there mate, rytex spaniels didnt get where they are cause they ase no good, they are the best out there, people just need to be careful not to breed to close, edwardiana rob is rytex free if thats another option for u..Polmaise wrote:IMO it is a good thing that people are maintaining bloodlines that are different to the fashionable ones for the genetic health of the breed. Re: stud dogs
With a Rytex bitch and an 'old-fashioned' Badgercourt lines stud, that's what I'm doing - but my first priority is temperament - if you don't get that, you can't do anything else.

I have just bred a litter with S. Sker as grandsire so I shall look out for that. I have a puppy and I'm in close contact with the new owners.Gavin wrote: The only slight issue I have is that a couple of the dogs in the litter do not have dead straight front legs, though I've recently learnt that this may have come down from Steadroc Sker, their grandsire, as he had the same is.
