Depending on where I'm going I sometimes carry one indespensible item. A pair of strong wirecutters. More than once I have had my dogs caught in snares set by poachers and on one occasion in a snare set by a keeper which he had "forgotten" to lift ! It is very difficult if you are on your own to release a frantically struggling and fear biting dog from a snare, hence the wire cutters. Some snares are designed to "lock" It may be simple enough to take a dead fox from a locked snare but hopefully I will have got to my dog long before it is dead. One good snip from the wirecutters releases the dog - but it doesn't do much for the snare !

Thanks for the link! Are they fairly accurate on size? I bought a boot for emergencies, flatcoat size allegedly, hah! It cam up over Hettie's elbow
