Re: building a kennel
Google dog kennels and have a look at the designs that should give you some ideas. A rabbit hutch affair would not be warm enough in my opinion especially if we have another winter like the last!

Re: building a kennel
That’s a decent space is it a concrete base ?
If it were me I’d be thinking of making it full height because you have years ahead of you of cleaning it out and half stooping kills your back, well it does mine.
I’d be either lining it with marine ply or stock board preferably stock board and making a sleeping box within. That way the dog is only keeping the box warm not the whole kennel and it is actually cooler in summer because the dog can sit on top of the sleeping box. I’d cover the run area in case you get yourself an escapologist, I’d also think of drainage.
A single along the lines of this http://www.reeveskennels.co.uk/bourtonrange.php would be practical or something like this http://www.timberbuilddogkennels.co.uk/ ... nnels.html
If you are going to the Game Fair there are loads to look at to buy or get ideas from.

Re: building a kennel
Hi,
You might want to take a look at my first time efforts for our Labrador.
Its maybe a bit bigger than you`re looking for but might give you some ideas!
I have insulated the hut and covered in the window.
The outside area has still to be covered but overall a fair size for 1 Labrador just have to wait a while until we get another

Re: building a kennel
I am trying to work on bettering an already existing kennel. I have a 10'x30' kennel that is in a very shady part of our property but the lowest part which holds alot of moisture. Concrete is so expensive, I know this is the best method, but I was able to find a friend who works in concrete that thought he could get me 2'x2' concrete pads (like airconditioning pads) for $5.50 a piece. Which would save me alot of money. Has anyone tried using these instead. I thought I would lay down lime first and then set them in level and then hose down to set in place. I want to make sure this a good solution and long run cost saver. Any thoughts?
