how nice it must be to have so many rosettes, trophys etc that you find them a bore, it makes you wonder why clubs bother giving them out!

I display all test certificates and rosettes inside a large black plastic bin liner. Trial certificates are kept in a folder alongside the dogs pedigree which is kept in a drawer in a spare bedroom.

I agree I am quite dissapointed by the attitude of some  seems disheartening for the clubs that they go to all that bother and expense for things to be thrown out.

Well having spent several Saturday afternoons laminating certificates (my own equipment and own expense) for various club activities, then I may just not bother in future and save myself a lot of trouble! The odd thing is that everyone expected them - whether for attendance at training days, small club competitions or attending a first aid day.
We will never be in the 'big boys league' - but you know what? I am just as proud of the 2 wee rosettes we got at a fun dog show. I have to celebrate our small successes because we aren't going to get any big ones ...............

A certificate signed by judges is of minimal expense to clubs if not laminated. Why bother going to the expense of giving a rosette as well? Would anyone care if they were discontinued? (Apart from rosette makers, of course).

actually, the certificates signed by the judges have quite a lot of work gone into them.
first you have to have them printed - if like our club who has 4 spaniel trials 4 ret trial 1 spaniel working test & 3 ret tests that's quite a lot to start with!
then the hard done by secretary has to fill in as far as she/he can before the event.
then after the event along with all the other paper work to be written & signed in good weather or p**ing rain & wind has to sit in car & try to write neatly the dogs name, owner & handler then get the judges to sign - then get them given out as prizes so everyone can congratulate you - only for you to go home and think there not worth it!!
any certs i get go into the dogs file. rosettes go on a cork board - any special photos (nice test wins or teams or at the championships) get framed.
any trophies i'm lucky enough to get go on mantel shelf - i thought most people were the same - obvisiously not.

I'm happy to admit that it may well be because I'm fairly new to the competitive side of things but I'm proud of all my/the dog's achievements/certificates etc - although I only display the wins and they're only in my office - only silverware goes on display. I was even a little disappointed when one of my dog's won a test and 'only' received a winner's rosette and there was no actual certificate to state what she had won and when. I think it depends on personality and how long people have been doing it/how much they've already won that decides how much value they place on a certificate/rosette/trophy. But I, for one, am chuffed with them all and would be very disappointed if they were discontinued.

I am sure we are all thrilled to get certificates and appreciate the time and work gone into them, but I think a lot of the reticence in showing them is due to our nature of "modesty" - not quite the right word! I am proud of mine but they are for me and no one else will get the pleasure I have, so in the drawer they go where I know they are just for me.

Its not like they go into the bin straight when i get home but i think i'm llowed to throw 15 years old bows and yellowed papers from events i hardly rememer anymore? I still save a few which are special to me but.. And i no longer cover the wall with them. If that makes me a horrible person so be it.
