New to Gundogs - my cocker pup is wonderful
Hello all
I am nearly 4 weeks in to my first cocker - she will be 12 weeks tomorrow. What a love. So clever very clever & very trainable and am taking her for a little 'training session' with Allan Atkinson (recommended by a friend) next weekend to make sure I am getting some good foundations in now for future training - but we are having lots of fun she lives with me and has just about stopped chasing the cats (to play!). I have no experience at all of gun dogs or gun dog training and dont shoot but she is from good stock - Timsgarry Barlow - and seems to come ready programmed with a few things so I want to have a go (being an outdoors person sounds like a good thing to do with her). I think I've got a lot to learn, If anyone can recommend a good club close to where I live.... North Yorkshire (PM me for more details)...I would be grateful. Thanks and I look forward to learning from this site - especially training methods / timings / expectations etc

Welcome and congrats to a life with a cocker, arent they awesome?
Mine is from Timsgarry Bell and also came with some good stuff, totally awesome with a well bred spaniel. It's a bit like driving a very fast car though - it's easy to get blinded by the speed. *grins*.
And wow, stopped chasing the cats already?? It took quite a few months more for mine, i am impressed! She can occasionally still drag the oldest over the floor if the old kitty feels agreeable.

My 6 month cocker pup is related to yours - she is by Timsgarry Valtos. I have also had a couple of sessions with Allan - he's a lovely chap! We certainly know we've got our pup as she is a real character and does everything at 100 mph whereas my other 6 year old cocker seems very calm in comparison although I suspect that is the difference in their breeding.
Welcome to the forum.
