Many thanks for that Holmes. From what I'd seen previously, it seemed localised to around the New Forest but your link shows it is also near Newcastle upon Tyne.

Here is the BVA link http://www.bva.co.uk/news/3715.aspx

In life, it is important to know when to stop arguing with people and simply let them be wrong.

The symptoms seem very similar with the 2012 cases and the recent ones. Thanks for that Judy.

My vet in France, has never heard of Alabama Rot

Spot or to give him his full name i-Spott, is the only one out of a litter of 4 dogs and 2 bitches, who shows symptoms of what could be AR, he has droopy eye lids, show dog :20: style, but they are getting to be more like a proper eyelids now, and when he first came to us he had little brown specks around the edges of his ears, which I put down to his brothers having a playful nip on his ears with their sharp baby teeth

The vet said that it was not a parasite that was causing Spott to have a scratch at his ears, and chew on his tail and legs, but could be dirty ears causing him to scratch his ears so much so that he lost a fair bit of hair and made them bleed at times, other than that she did not know what it was, so we had ear antibiotics, ear cleaner, and medicated shampoo to go home with

I desperation brought a can of medicated second skin, to spray on where he was/had been biting, and gave all the affected places a good spraying, both to stop Spott having a "go" or his brothers licking his ears raw, which seams to have worked, also he was a "hot" dog, (a couple of times that he has got on to the bed and laid down beside me :o he was a lot hotter then either little May, or Barr or Patch his brothers) but is cooling down a bit and if I may use the term "not put together too well" 'cos what with his eyes being droopy, his "balls" are low hung, and he "rocks" back a bit on his back feet, also he's the lightest of the three by a couple of kilos, on the 27 Feb Spott weighed 17.250 kg, Barr 19.700kg, and Patch tipped the scales at 20.250 kg, they were 61/2 months old then

In the photos you can see where he has been chewing and scratching at his-self, and how he compares to his two brothers

... TWO cases of Alabama Rot have been confirmed in the Leigh area, according to Wigan Council.

The council has issued advice on its website and says it has received official confirmation that two dogs have died after contracting the mystery illness in the east of the borough.

The webpage also states that further cases are being investigated and it is therefore possible that more cases will emerge in the coming weeks...

I was told about these cases in Leigh days after they have happened, myself and a few other have been onto Wigan council to enquire why they didn't notify the general public sooner, as I train my dogs on land all over Leigh and Wigan.

My vets finally posted a statement yesterday about the disease in our area.
