Dog box bedding

Post by Dave M »

I have a double dog box it has a thin rubber mat inside, I was using shredded paper also but it gets wet quick and a bit messy.

I picked up couple of mats other day, perfect water proof and hardy material but the dogs burst them and soaked within a week.

What are you's using in the transport boxed for bedding? When working the dogs it's difficult to dry them off between every drive if your in a hurry so they need to jump in wet. I was thinking a thicker rubber mat only for comfort on journeys to and home.

Not used them for years, used them with pups mostly.

They will get real wet during the day all the same.

Why not just get a towelling coat? I have a rubber mat in my transk9 and then just stick a towelling coat on them to dry them off

I use a reversible towelling coat and a couple of vet beds on a shoot day , dependant on conditions

I had a couple of those closed cell foam mattress things that go under your sleeping bag when camping - left over from the kids I hasten to add, I'm not a masochist - I cut one up and put it under the rubber mat. Its a bit of insulation and softer than the mat alone. One Cocker scrambles everything up and lays on the crate bottom, one lies on the bed and the youngster gets whatever is left after everything has been rearranged, usually a big pile of bed, mat and mattress either over or under her. I tried a crate mat with a waterproof cover that fitted the crate but got fed up with hearing the dog scrabbling at it all the way home.

Couple of bits of vet bed and putting a dry bit in for the journey home seems to work ok. Also mine like lying on an old microfibre towel from Aldi's over the top of the bedding, its about the only thing its useful for cos it never dried anything in its life!

Similar to Judy, I rotate a couple of really cheap "fleece" sofa throws from Primark. They are only a couple of pounds each. I chuck them in the crate and when the dogs get out, I hang them up and they dry in about 20 mins. Cheap as chips, do the job and they dry ready to be used again really quickly.

As an aside, I gave up using them on the sofa because I kept getting electric shocks from all the friction of getting up and sitting down :o

Elderly poly pads from work, I have three so just rotate through them. They're rather thread bare but wick up moisture and keep them warm quite well.

Vet bed. the water will soak through leaving the top relatively dry. It washes and dried very easily. Plus using toweling or fleece rugs on the dogs helps too.

Hi, I am in Australia and looking for the bedding for my cocker spaniel, but I am facing problem in size of bedding. Do you think I buy simple bedding plus quilt cover and customize it myself? Although its hard but I can try! What you say?
