New kennel building. Can it be too big?

Post by countrryboy »

Alright folks.

Been a while since i've been on here, but looking for a bit of advice about kennel building esp the size.

I was just about to set out my founds for a new kennel block but even after a few years of thinking/dreaming about it i can't just figure out wot size i should build.

At the minuate i'm planning on 5x runs of 1.5m by 3?m long with a a block buiilt shed joined on to it for sleeping boxes, feed, whelping area, sink, dog shower and log burner.
Planning on running the boxes along 1 wall, so about 800 wide and the shower is 700mm wide, i was hoping to put a 1.2m door in so i could store a quad in there if needed for security (just short term).
So i could just about get away with a 3m wide building whick looks long and narrow, i can't help feeling for the extra materials i'd be as well just going out to 4m but that just seems massive.

I do have the space so not really an issue, and doing all the building myself only extra's would be the cost for tin and concrete.

Ps Also wot's the best finish fr the utside of the building? Will be building with 4" solid blocks so will be porus, so can either render outside or just paint/seal it. (Bear in mind i'm not very good/rubbish at rendering) Is it a better more weather proof finish?

What about 'clapboarding' outside the blocks? You can get maintenance free stuff now which looks quite nice, nicer than blocks or even rendered blocks.
In life, it is important to know when to stop arguing with people and simply let them be wrong.
