Clumber

I touched on Clumbers in another thread but wanted to ask if anyone has any experience of them in the beating line either personally or having seen one. ??

Ive seen quite a few, sadly the working/biddability seems to have been watered down to the extent theyre not really worth bothering with

I've only seen one but it was in the wrong hands, if it had been in better hands it might just have been usable as a beating dog but it wouldn't have done for me, but I felt the dog had more to offer than the owner was getting out of it.

The problem IPS is to get a dog to do something it doesn't really want to do is either very difficult or almost impossible, to rein a dog in who wants to do everything you want it to just a bit more enthusiastically than you want it to is an absolute doddle by comparison. Most of the questions on this forum are about controlling a dog not getting it going!!

Um, yes i can kind of see your point. I have only ever had to reign her in which is frustrating enough but to try and get em going must be even more frustrating, i experienced a little of that the first couple of times i went rough shooting but that was purely confusion as she is used to being steady (well supposed to be ) when i have a gun in my hand.........was just an avenue i was investigating, looks like i will have to endure another cocker then

Or you could listen to the wise ones and do yourself a favour and get a springer!!

it would have healed by time they found anything
