Pointer

Hi,

Someone local to me has died suddenly. The family is struggling with the two pointers, the bitch is 9, the dog is 4 (and neutered). The dog is the challenge and I saw him this evening, he is v soft, heel work ok, recall no good. He’s been left to his own devices of late, not getting the attention or exercise he needs. Poor photo attached. I think he is lacking muscle and is underweight- a bit of rib is fine but he’s showing too much to my mind.

A lovely lady I help with her dog brought him to me to look at and discuss what to do with. She doesn’t want another dog.

Any bright ideas?

First port of call for me would be GSP rescue. Doesn't look excessively slim from the photo.

Agree with Judy, he is a German Shorthaired Pointer and I am sure GSP Rescue would find him a home. Is he near your home? I think I must live in your area and used to have GSPs.

The lady who brought him to me is taking them both on. A good outcome, she’s an experienced dog owner with time, space and patience.

Late to this, but seems to have worked out well. She would do well to join either the GSP Club or Association, as their is a wealth of knowledge, freely given by all those that have been adopted by a GSP or two. I can see your itching to step up your training to cater for HPRs as well , so lucky dogs

Yes a good result! I’ve absolutely no desire to do anything special with HPRs beyond basic manners! It turns out the dog is 6 not 4. They are both settling in well.
