Re: Umbilical Hernia

Thanks for your opinions. I think if it had been solely my decision I would have thrown caution to the wind and just gone with the pup I like, taking any future problems on the chin. But unfortunately, although I will be training the pup, the OH will actually work it and he is really not keen... not...

Re: How many people keep thier gundogs inside?

Both! All are in for first six months then out into communal kennels. However, they come in when in season, after operations, for any treatments, after hard days work, if they look a bit sad... etc We do have four children as well as the eight dogs so not all of them enjoy coming in during the day.....

Umbilical Hernia

Hello! Looking for some help and advise.. I have had a super morning picking a 7 week old Labrador pup. The litter is fairly well bred and I have seen both parents in the field and like they way they work and look. Of the available bitch pups, one stood out immediately, she was forward, playful, inq...

Re: Wanting to play chase

My lab pup loves to carry stuff too! In all honesty, if it's not dangerous (I have no precious items!) I ignore it, she soon gets bored and I just get rid of it once she's disgarded it, if that is not an option, I recall her and she spits it out to receive her reward (making sure its of a higher val...

Re: Male or Bitch

Personally I don't believe in getting bitches spayed or dogs neutered unless the is a medical reason. It should not be done for convenience or in the hope of altering behaviours. Of course it is a matter of personal choice. But for me, our dogs are kenneled so the inconvenience of the mess is negli...

Re: Male or Bitch

I would choose a bitch, I have a dominant dog, he never tries to boss the girls. me too, but if you don't intend to have pups, I would get her spayed. Historically we always had boys and our first bitches first season was a bit of an eye opener :o However, if you prefer dogs, IMO the pup will need ...

Re: Jake's Diary

Lovely! I don't think I have ever seen a portuguse pointer working and know very little about them. Bird dogs aren't they? What made you go for one of these rather then a breed that is easily available in the uk? ... assuming you are based in the uk...

Re: SLUGS!

Aww man, looks like another phone call to the vets and a trip out to pick something up! Poison should not be a problem, she picked them up in the parks behind the house while out for a walk.. the only garden within a 7 mile radius is mine and I use the term 'garden' very loosely! Thanks for the help...

SLUGS!

Hello! My delightful 14 week lab pup has revealed herself as a disgusting slug slurper. I think she got at least three this morning before I realised what she was up to, she was wormed last week with panacur, does anyone know whether this will cover her??
