Undoubtedly a red herring, however, one thing I can't stand is a poorly turned out dog whether it be dog shows, trials or plain old shoot work so, in that respect it might do a few folks a favour to air the thoughts behind good coat.
A shiny coat and good muscles present a picture of good health and a dog which is capable of a day's work. Scruffy, dry, dull coats and under developed muscles belong on dogs whose owners don't care too much for the dog's welfare. The best thing for a shiny coat is regular worming along with a decent diet and exercise, keep the dog fit and you won't be living at the Vet's. I give mine a couple of raw eggs a week each if I think they don't look as good as they might, it appears to make a difference.

In life, it is important to know when to stop arguing with people and simply let them be wrong.

ca'nt manage a photo of lister but he has got a very shiney coat all year round.his previous owner told me to feed him a jar of chicken tonight (honey and mustard one) over the week with his normil food mix. thoawt he was joking us. but the little fella frives on it. aparrently it has got egg in and some oils that polish his coat up nice and gleeming. you would think he had had a wd40 cloth rubbed over him hes that shiney.

For a real shine, pre show I recommend using your girlfriends shampoo and conditioner, usually Loreal, because they're worth it!

some dogs do just have rubbish coats too though. I have the delights of a spayed brown cocker who is never going to polish up no matter how many eggs or tins of tuna she has.
Now, where did I put that show entry form...
