Looks come second to working ability in order of importance. I must admit i have to like the look of a dog but looks feck all use when it comes to finding game or hitting cover....

Re: any images of snipey headed cocker spaniels
I must admit to be confused by the term snipe headed as the photos shown all look like the dogs have different body conformities not just slim muzzles. I have not seen a photo of a heavily boned dog with a "snipe" head, or a lightly built dog with a wide muzzle. Does any of this make a difference to the dogs nature, handling or working ability?

Conformation doesn't affect the working ability of a dog that is inherent mentally rather than physically . You won't find a heavy boned dog with a very snippy head , as you won't find a slightly built dog with a bucket head.
Greyhounds, slightly built for speed with snippy heads, Bull Mastif , a heavily built dog with a head to match.

Does the latter not contradict the former here?pontbeck wrote:Conformation doesn't affect the working ability of a dog that is inherent mentally rather than physically . You won't find a heavy boned dog with a very snippy head , as you won't find a slightly built dog with a bucket head.

So, if the conformation of a 2 springer spaniels was so far apart that one was 6 inches taller and 9 kilo's heavier than the other, the taller, wider, heavier spaniel's performance V's that of the lighter smaller framed dog, would be no different. Would the working ability be the same?
Do you mean the working mentality?

The performance would be the same. That's not saying the results would be the same.
